"In philosophy, good persuasion only comes through fundamental reverie,
giving back to thoughts their avenue of dreams". Water and dreams".
Bachelard, Water and dreams.
Since 2003, Becquemin & Sagot, artists from La cellule, have been developing
artwork around the theme of consumption as a prism for understanding the relationship
between society and the world. As a subject of their artwork, consumption
is also at the core of their system of creation: their works make subtle references
to existing texts or elements from popular culture, and their aesthetic approach
to do-it-yourself techniques often uses recuperated industrial products as
their core materials. Their installations always include some form of bait
that lures in the viewer in order to have them take part in the transformative
nature of their artwork.
Filled with these double-meanings and using customized and recuperated components,
their artworks create a woven universe where one can “share sensibilities,”
to draw on a phrase by philosopher Jacques Rancière. The public is invited
to participate and interact with their artistic creations.
